(#160) Forgiveness Leads to Abundance in your Business & Lifestyle

Forgiveness is beneficial for your life and mindset. It helps you focus intentionally on ‘what could be’ versus ‘what you’ve lacked’. It also sets you free from a person or any events that keep you from moving on with your life so you can tap into your purpose and live in the moment.

As a therapist, do you spend so much time focusing on what someone should have given you? Such as...

“My grad school should've taught me how to run a business.”

“My grad school should’ve taught me how to build a practice.”

“My grad school should’ve taught me how to understand business, numbers, social media, client avatar, ideal client.”

Having a lack mindset is what hinders a lot of mental health therapists’ ability to reach the next level of abundance in their life. That’s why in today’s episode of the Abundance series, we’ll review R. Klimes’s 4 stages of forgiveness and learn to apply them the right way so that you can get the power back to yourself and start your journey to an abundant living.

Podcast Goals:
  • Learn how to take ownership of what you can do to have a profitable business

Episode Timeline:
  • Forgiveness gives you freedom from your past; from a person you are forgiving; or from the event that you may be holding on to. It also helps you take ownership of your life; keeps you healthy; and lets you focus on what could be vs what you lack. (01:38)
  • “Acknowledgment” stage is to acknowledge the hurt that you may have felt from not having to learn about opening up or thriving in a biz or private practice in your graduate school (05:54)
  • “Bar from revenge” stage is taking ownership rather than passing the blame to a particular institution (06:39)
  • “Consider” stage is to review and understand why a traditional school doesn’t provide information on running a private practice business (09:27)
  • “Decide” stage is acceptance, not choosing to pass your hurt or anger to what you consider the offender (11:33)
  • “Extend” stage is extending compassion to what you consider the offender. Not doing so would lead to a lifetime of unhappiness. (12:55)
  • Focusing on lack delays you from having a profitable business. Focusing on how you can get the power back to yourself is finding who you need. It could be a therapist, biz coach or an accountability group of positive minded people. (15:59)

Standout Quotes from Doctor TK:
  • "Why is it that schools do not teach us how to own or open a profitable practice? Well, the academic institutions do not have that as part of their requirements for you to graduate. The purpose of the program is for you to become a therapist, not a biz owner. If you want to be a better biz owner— or if you just want to become a biz owner— you have to go look for business ownership programs. That's why people went to business school." (10:31)
  • "If you do not learn how to take ownership of what you can do and create a profitable lifestyle & abundant business, you will remain on the hook. So what are you gonna do about it? " (15:26)
