(#256) 10 Years in Private Practice Lesson #4: Be Okay With Changing Your Mind

Many therapists get so wrapped up in overthinking their niche. Sadly, it creates a snowball effect that keeps them from advancing in their career or business. Overthinking also becomes a problem when it prevents a therapist from either marketing their company or learning to say no to people who don’t suit their ideal client profile. So how should we stop ourselves from overthinking and approach our fear of change?

Let’s keep the party going for my 10th anniversary in private practice! Celebrate with me as I share the major lessons learned over the last decade of running a prosperous solo and group practice.

In this episode, I share a lesson about being okay with changing your mind to achieve growth and clarity over time. You'll learn some strategies and business decisions I took to position myself in the market and grow my referrals despite serving different populations in my private practice.

Standout Quotes:

  • "If you feel as though... every time you log online, you're seeing that everybody speaks to your ideal client, [consider] what specific problem you solve with that population (even if it is women who have anxiety.) There are different types of anxiety; do you love working with more of the other? Do you like working with a few, but maybe you use the same strategies, techniques, with every single client no matter what...? But you don't limit yourself from seeing a depressed person..., you just know that the strategy that you have works with both.... Maybe your strategy is your niche." (09:32)
